Camp Adventureland

Dear Cub Leader

Its that time of year again for some of us whose Scouting season extends throughout the summer months to begin our planning & marketing (so to speak). This year I have decided to try to save some $ and reach those Scouters who have finally entered the world of cyberspace.

Below is a message about Camp Adventureland - Toronto's regional Cub camp which is open to all boys and girls aged 7-11 years old. We also have a web page operational (but presently outdated) located on GTR's official page at: http://www.scoutgtr.org/adv/adv01.htm

We would appreciate it if you could pass on the info below to your Cubs.

We are also willing to mail to you a whole info package which includes a 10 minute video to show to your Pack. Just call Mark Purcell at 416-490-6364 ext 233.

We are also looking for Scouters that are willing to come up for a week - even though it is volunteer there are several incentives (see below). This includes Jr staff positions as young as 13 (have them apply VERY soon).

Email me back if you have any questions whatsoever. Please, read on ...

-Mark McDermid, Camp Director

About Camp Adventureland

Adventureland is operated by Scouts Canada Greater Toronto Region. It is open to all youth aged 7-11 years old. It is held at Woodland Trails Scout Camp just north of Toronto. It has been in operation since 1970!

Program

Our program is very active and is based on components of the Cubbing program. Daily rotational events include: swimming, archery, woodcrafts, trampoline, sports and mountain biking. An out trip to a huge wave pool happens every week.

Optional outtrips are available to: laserquest, indoor rock climbing and horseback riding. An electives program introduced in 1999 allows campers to choose from programs such as: survival, advanced orienteering, drama, photography, lifesaving & first aid and outdoor cooking.

Other program areas include: campfires, cookouts, barbeques, movie night, wide games, and more!

Staffing At Adventureland

All staff positions are screened carefully and are, in most cases, registered Leaders in Scouting.

Junior staff positions are available from the ages of 13 & up.

Cubs are placed in villages of twenty five under the close supervision of five to six leaders.

Village staff positions include: Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters and Junior Leaders. Other positions available include: program staff, kitchen staff.

Parents that qualify for a volunteer staff position will have their own Cub aged child attend camp for free. A registered camp nurse is on staff. A professional chef prepares all meals in a recently renovated dining facility. Our camper:staff ratio is about 4:1.

Theme Weeks In 1999

Our four weeks of regular operation are:

July 5-9 "Around the World" Week,

July 12-16 Space Week,

July 19-23 Spy Week,

July 26-30 Millionaire Week.

Campers can attend multiple weeks at a discounted rate.
Weekly programs will modify slightly to accommodate each theme week.

Adventureland Goes North

Operating from August 1-7, Adventureland Goes North is only open to campers aged 10 and 11 years old. This modified Cub / Scout program prepares Cubs for the world of Scouts (youth aged 11-14 years old).

Campers attend four days at Woodland Trails and are then bussed to Haliburton Scout Reserve for four days.

Program includes: canoeing, kayaking, sailing, hiking, survival, snorkelling, archery, outrips to The Wave Pool and Go Karting. Space is limited to eighty campers only!!
