Bill S-19, An Act Respecting Scouts Canada

As you may be aware, Bill S-19, An Act Respecting Scouts Canada was introduced in the Senate of Canada on May 14, 2003. This piece of legislation will legally change the name from Boy Scouts of Canada to Scouts Canada.

The Bill also makes a number of other changes that reflect Scouts Canada's status in Canada and makes other technical and incidental changes relating to the administration of affairs. A copy of the bill can be seen at: The Scouts Canada Bill S-19.

However, as with many things nowadays, there is controversy over the Bill. This letter from the Scouts Canada CEO was circulated asking for support of the Bill. As with everything, there is another side, and those that have a different view need to have the ability to voice their opinion also. In short, the Bill will firmly entrench Bylaw 2, and the current unacceptable governance model.

As Bill S-19 was not passed, Bill S-27 has now been re-introduced. To see an explanation, and background information on this Private Members Bill, see Scoutdocs.ca. See the full text of the new Bill S-27.
