Join in on a Unique programme in which a Scout can take part along with his leaders, in learning about our HERITAGE and about those people who helped to forge our way of life today. What was it like in the British, Canadian and American Regts. during the War of 1812?

The youth learn about our heritage, as well as take part in a huge "capture the flag" type battle. We dress in period uniforms and act the part of soldiers of the time. As well as discipline, the boys learn about lifestyles during the period, tour the Fort, and take part in drills organized by re-enactors.

It all began back in 1974, with the Campaigns at Fort York in Toronto. The King's 8th Regiment was one of the founding members of these campaigns. These camps however, were more of a Military type and not a Scout camp, like that at Fort George. Too much drill at Fort York caused several people to take a long hard look at their programme. It was decided to break away from Fort York and start our own Camporee at Fort George in September of 1984. The first camporee had a total of 205 Scouts, leaders and support staff. It has been in operation for twenty years now and our annual attendance was over 1400 last year. These Camporees at Fort George are Scout Camps, based on a theme of taking us back in time to learn about our Heritage and what it was like in the British and American armies during the War of 1812.

The King's 8th Regiment stayed with the Fort York Campaigns until the culmination of the program in 1990 at Penetanguishine. The King's 8th Regiment officially transferred from the Fort York campaign in 1991, and has grown from only 2 Companies (The Light Company - 6th Newmarket and 1st Grenadier Company - 58th Toronto) with only 30 members to the large size that it is today (9 Companies - 265 members).

At Fort George, we have three British & Canadian Regts, all of them fought in the Battle which took place in May of 1813.
There is the 49th Regt. of Foot, Beneral Brock's Own, the King's 8th Regt, The King's Men (both of these are British) and the Royal Nfld. Regt. of Fencible Infantry (a Canadian Regt).

At the present time, the only American Regt involved in our campaigns is that of the 6th U.S. Regt.
Depending on where your Group resides, usually determines what Regt you will be assigned to and this is done by the Admin. Dept., in consultation with the Regimental Commanders.

A Company (Coy) consists of at least 30 Scouts and their leaders. Each Coy has a Captain (usually the Scoutmaster), a Lieutenant, two Ensigns and a Sergeant, with two Corporals and two Chosenmen.

There is now a new Uniform Shoppe located in the Town of Stroud, Ontario. This Shoppe will make all British Tunics, either made to order or assembled as a kit to be sewn at home. There is also a catalogue showing the other items that can be purchased.
